Brooks-Howell Recovery
Like most non-profits damaged by Hurricane Helene, Brooks-Howell needs help to cover the extra operating costs caused by this prolonged disaster.
Expenses like:
- Interruption of regular operations due to lack of phone, internet, electricity, or water for nearly two weeks (still no potable running water after three weeks)
- Extra employee expenses
- Nursing staff: caring for health care residents with no water or electricity
- Grounds crew: struggling to clear and open the driveway for emergency and staff access (all access points were blocked)
- Maintenance and EVS: employees working overtime to keep residents and apartments as clean and safe as possible
- Dietary team: imagine feeding hot meals to all the residents with no running water or power! Our team is doing a fantastic job of working extra hard to keep us well fed. Some very creative and delicious combinations have been served.
- Extra diesel fuel to keep the generators going 24/7 for two weeks.
- Tree removal and disposal contractors and equipment purchase
- Lack of running water (still no potable water in Asheville) caused the need for
- Food and disposable serving supplies
- Disposable supplies and extra linens for health care
- Staff supplies/buckets to carry pool water and clean all resident bathrooms
- Many other unbudgeted needs
Your support helps Brooks-Howell continue to meet its residents’ needs and the extra budget burden caused by this major disaster.
